Sockington and Tweetie

One Million Followers on Twitter!

Tweetie, a spirited, homeless feral kitten from Newtown, Connecticut got more than he ever dreamed possible when he received an invitation for an audience with The Internet's Most Famous Cat, Sockington!

After Tweetie's foster mom posted photos of Tweetie on Twitter, thousands of Sockington's followers known as the "Socks Army" could not help but notice that Tweetie was the spitting image of Sockington. Was Tweetie Sockington's long lost son? How could this be?

Initially, Sockington denied rumors on Twitter by saying,"WHAT NO WE WERE JUST FRIENDS NOTHING WENT ON." But the Socks Army was sure there was some connection. Determined to help, they reached out to this homeless kitten, who was very sweet once you got past the initial “hissing/lunging/I-can-draw-blood” greeting. But most lived too far away to adopt.

As Tweetie's Foster Mom, Robin Olson, wrote about her challenges working with Tweetie on her Blog, "Covered in Cat Hair;" behind the scenes there were debates and discussions at Socks Army HQ of what they could do to help.

Ms. Olson was also able to get the extra funding she needed from The Animal Center's Director to keep Tweetie in foster care "as long as it takes" instead of releasing this spirited feral kitten after neutering back to his caretaker and a life outdoors.

As time went on, Tweetie stopped growling and hissing at his foster mom and started greeting her with purrs.

Then, to everyone's great surprise, an invitation from Sockington himself arrived. "Would Tweetie come to Massachusetts to meet with Sockington and his partner in crime, Pennycat?"

Wow! Tweetie jumped at the chance, so his foster mom packed him up and was kind enough to make the 140 mile trip to Massachusetts earlier this month.

The big meeting came on August 5th. Tweetie was a perfect gentleman and was quite eager to meet his idol. Sockington felt he needed some time to get over the shock of seeing himself in miniature so he graciously extended the invitation to an "extended stay of unknown duration!" Our daily updates have been glowing and we hear that Tweetie is having the time of his life.

We're not sure what's going to happen next, but there are rumors of possibly making Tweetie's stay something more permanent.

Can forever home be next for our little feral foster kitten? Stay tuned, Socks Army!
