Oliver

Here are some pictures of Oliver (Charlie), the kitten my girlfriend and I adopted in the fall. He started out quiet and shy but has quickly become the more mischevious of our two cats. He and Snerf only took about a week to become best friends and it's so much fun to watch them interact with each other. Oliver is doing great! He is a sweetheart and I'll often wake up in the middle of the night to find him curled up next to me. Thank you so much for all the work that you. —Amanda G., 12/07

Animal Center: This cat was transferred to our program from a rescue group that was overwhelmed with animals and asked for help.

Chloe (top) & Roxy

I hope you enjoy the pictures of Roxy and Chloe. As you can see, they are both beautiful young cats and Roxy has the most gorgeous, glossy and silky coat you can imagine. They adore playing and are the most mischievious animals ever! Chloe likes to catch and eat bugs and will not stop until she has caught every single one in the house. Roxy follows me around like a puppy and if she is shut out of a room and hears my voice will mew until I open the door and will stick her little paw under the door. I love them both to bits and I am so glad we got them. Thank you for providing them such a good start to life. The Animal Center does such great work. —Abbie B., 12/07

Animal Center: Chloe and Roxy were part of a litter of six kittens plus their mom (Lilly) who came into our program when the elderly guardian/owner of the mom cat went into a nursing home. We recently received an update from littermates Mocha and KJ.

Casey

Happy New Year to the entire staff of The Animal Center! We just wanted to let you know that Casey (aka Noah) is doing great. He sleeps with us every night, gets along wonderfully with Riley and they both enjoy traveling upstate with us on weekends. He's the sweetest thing, a real "talker" - all day long, mew mew mew. He's such a joy to have. Thanks again to you and all the dedicated members of The Animal Center. —Dawn & Billy M., 12/07

Animal Center: This kitten came into our program when he was only 3.5 weeks old. He was one of nine transferred to us from a feral cat colony in CT. All kittens from this site were orange, orange and white or gorgeous buff tabbies!

Sammy & Sophie

I'm sending these updated photos of Sammy & Sophie! Aren't they a pair? They get along so well and bring us so much joy! As you can see, they rult he house and are allowed to do what they want. Sophie is turning one this month and Sammy is already 1 1/2. Thank you for all the work that you do and thanks for Sammy & Sophie. We love them! —Gabriele G. 12/07

Animal Center: Sammy is a Newtown kitty who was so sick with URI when we rescued him that he had to be hospitalized for two weeks. When he was well enough for adoption, he found a wonderful home with Gabriele and her family. About a year later, his family adopted Sophie from us. Sophie and her 3 littermates were born to a stray mom cat who gave birth in someone's garage last winter. They became best friends with Ray Charles, the blind cat we rescued last February. You can view updated pictures of two of their siblings, Cookie & Mugsy, on this site.

Sparky & Tootsie

Happy New Year! The kitties are doing GREAT.  WE absolutely love them--borderline obsessed with them (smile).  They are best friends and yet they pay plenty of attention to us, too. Thank you so much for making our house a home.  I tell everyone about you, so hopefully more kittens/adult cats will get adopted as a result. Best wishes for a healthy new year. — Love, Wendy V. 1/08

Animal Center: Both of these kittens were transferred to our program from a rescuer who was overwhelmed with animals and asked for help.

Spike

Spike was the fourth addition to our family, and was very skittish when we brought him home. At first, he hid alot; in fact, we nicknamed him "Bigfoot" because sightings of him were so rare!! However, just three months after he joined us, I am happy to report that he is a friendly, affectionate and outgoing boy! He is such a cuddler, and he loves to have his belly scratched. He is so sweet and gentle. He has adjusted beautifully to a house with a seven year old, three other cats, and a large Labrador named Angus. Spike is the first one to the food bowl for every meal, and at eight months old, I am happy to report that he weighs a whopping 13 pounds. To people who might be hesitabt to adopt a shy cat from your program, all I can say is that we have adopted two, and could not recommend it more highly. It defintiely takes a little more patience and understanding, but the end result is worth it. It is so rewarding to take an animal that is scared and shy, and see that animal blossom in your home. A little persistence will pay off a hundred fold. —Regina B., 1/08

Animal Center: This kitten was rescued from a feral cat colony on the Monroe/Newtown border that we're helping to manage. He was very skittish at first but has completely blossomed in his new home!

Simba

When we first saw Simba on The Animal Center's website, we were drawn to his eyes--he looked so sad! He was originally a kitten that was shy and would run away whenever he was approached. However, after just a few days at our house, he came out of his shell completely. He is a very vocal boy, and watch out for him at dinnertime--no one gets between him and food! He loves to eat--anything! Simba is also a sweet and affectionate boy who loves his fellow kitties, and charges around all night initiating wrestling matches with them. He loves to be held, cuddled and brushed. He is such a happy and content boy that it is hard to remember he was ever any other way. —Regina B., 1/08

Tut

Tut is the friendliest, most lovable cat we have ever seen. He loves to snuggle, and purrs all day long. He always comes running when he hears water or the sound of a bag of treats being opened. From the time he came home, Tut has loved to climb up on my shoulder, and stay perched on it, as I walk around the house like a pirate's parrot! He is the ambassador of our house, and happily greets everyone who comes to visit. —Regina B., 1/08

Animal Center: Like many of our rescues, Tut was transferred into our program when his time had run out at the shelter he was in.

Linus

Linus is our resident mischief maker. We call him Steve McQueen, because he is always trying to make a "Great Escape" to get outside! But he is a happy and playful cat, who has taken a special liking to our dog Angus. the two of them sleep together every night, and Linus can often be found grooming Angus and covering him with kitty kisses. Linus is especially patient with my son Lucas (7), especially when it comes to playing and being picked up. Linus loves to sit at the front window and watch the birds, and his favorite snack is Cheetos! —Regina B., 1/08

Animal Center: Linus was transferred into our program when his time had run out at the shelter he was in.

Mocha

This is a  photo of our adorable kitty, Mocha Latte, who we adopted from the Animal Center in 2007. She is the focus of our daily life, especially when she brings to us her various “make-up” brushes so that we can play fetch...we throw, she retrieves—this game can on for quite some time.  At Christmas time, a short piece of red ribbon tied to a little bell, I think is her favorite. Normally we do not let her on our kitchen counters, unless it is to watch TV or drink water from the faucet.. (I think she likes the commercials the best) I highly recommend anyone contemplating in adopting a kitty, to go ahead and do so.. they truly bring joy into your lives. Sincerely, Mrs. Sandrine B. 1/08

Animal Center: You can see this kitty's siblings on this page. They are Chloe and Roxy, and KJ who were part of a litter of six kittens plus their mom (Lilly) who came into our program when the elderly guardian/owner of the mom cat went into a nursing home.

Cookie & Mugsy

Monica, I have wanted to send these to you for so long, then I read Ray's story in his own words and just had to send pics of the little friends who kept Ray company! Both angels are doing well and are the "most" loving cats we have ever had...Mugsy just can't get enough of laying on you and Cookie can't get enough Pounce treats!! Wishing you all the happiest of holidays and a wonderful 2008. God bless you for all you do for these lovely animals! Maria S. 12/07

Animal Center: Cookie, Mugsy and their 2 littermates were born to a stray mom cat who gave birth in someone's garage last winter. They became best friends with Ray Charles, the blind cat we rescued last February. You can view updated pictures of their sister, Sophie, on this site.

Monty

We adopted Monty in the spring of 2007. He is a very smart little guy. Monty knows what he wants and is clever about turning on the charm to get treats or to play catch.  He enjoys playing catch with his pom pom balls.  He's an expert at retrieving as well as picking out the best toy for the game.  Monty welcomes us at the door when we get home and has a lot to say when he firsts sees us after a long day of relaxation.  He's ready to play and makes this clear by bringing the best toy for playing catch over to you for you to begin the game.  He is fascinated with the vacuum and will keep you company while you clean without getting in the way. He knows his name so when you call out for him, he is right there just moments after the "call." He's now ten months old.  All ten pounds of him but he's agile and spunky which makes him a lot of fun. He's happy being where you are and being a part of whatever activity is going on in the house. We just love him. —Jeanine S. & Geoff B. 2/2008

Animal Center: Monty and his siblings were rescued from one of our feral cat colonies on the Newtown/Monroe line when they were 4 1/2 weeks old. Monty's siblings, Valentine & Precious, are also in our album

Kringle (top) & Squeak
Kringle's priority in life is to play. The favorite toy at the moment is six feet long, and he drags it everywhere we are in order to play fetch. Once we tire of fetch we place his toy out of sight on top of a cabinet. A short time later he returns with this toy after either jumping up to a six ft high cabinet (yes, it's true), or climbing the shelves like a mountain climber pulling himself up shelf after shelf. He also talks a lot, and once he decides he wants to do something he is determined. He loves to be vacuumed with the brush attachment. We use it to suck up his fur on top of his head until he resembles a Conehead. He watches TV and the computer screen, and loves to snuggle with his humans. He is very gentle, never putting out his claws, and loves to be carried around the house unless he's up to something else. When The Animal Center called to tell us they had a kitten with a lot of personality they were right on the mark. We can't imagine life without our Kringle aka Fur Boy.

Squeak's feral mother was smart. She hid her kittens in a storm drain to protect them from predators, until one day a jogger running past heard hungry kittens crying. Upon peering down into the storm drain she could see their little faces looking up at her. The Animal Center rescued the kittens, placed them with foster families, and then we came along and adopted Squeak. True to her beginnings Squeak still loves to spend time in the bathtub, and bathroom sink watching the water, and she is not one to ever miss a meal. If she were a human we believe she would have sang sultry songs in a nightclub. She's always very gentle, shy, and sweet until her "brother" Kringle wants to play/fight and he usually pays for it. She gracefully swings her hips like a dancer from side to side, badda boom, badda boom, and he goes flying. He doesn't mind since he always comes back for more. Squeak has her routines, sink time as we are getting ready for work, bird watching, nap time, sleeping on the couch between her humans in the evening, and then she races top speed to beat us to the bedroom knowing she will have her special end of the day petting time. What a life! She's our Beauty Girl.— Human Mom, Marleen Cafarelli 2/08

Animal Center: Kringle was transferred into our program when his time had run out at the shelter he was in. Squeak, as Marleen indicates, was rescued from a storm drain.

Hua Ping & Mei Ling

Once a week, on Fridays usually, Hua Ping and Mei Ling travel with me to Nathanial Witherell (a retirement home in nearby Greenwich) and they are the center of attention for the “Afternoon Cat Club.” It seems to me that they are the perfect pair for pet therapy.  HuaPing entertains in the middle of a small circle of wheel chairs … he poses and struts and even retrieves (did you ever see a cat retrieve before, he brings back rubber bands!). Meanwhile MeiLing allows herself to be moved from lap to lap, sitting quietly and patiently while the Cat Club visitors pat her and love her to their heart’s content. HuaPing and MeiLing have several steady admirers, among them Marissa, Bertha, Jim and Francis … Francis happens to be the oldest resident at NW reaching 103 years last October.  She’s had a lot of animals in her life, but she still loves these two very much!  —Margaret T. 1/08

Animal Center: These two kittens were among 8 rescued at one of our Newtown feral cat sites in August 2006. The adults had been living on a farm. It's not clear if they were "dumped" there by people or the farm's family brought them in as barn cats. When the family moved from the farm, a neighbor started feeding the cats when they found their way to his doorstep in search of food. In all, we neutered/vaccinated more than 15 adults and helped place 9 kittens/young adults from this site.

Frosty

Frosty is living large! Though "petite" for his age, he taunts his fellow cat-mate with surprise pounces and wrestling matches. He prefers to lounge on top of couches and sneaks into bed late at night and snuggles under his "mom's" chin. For a kitten who met an unfortunate accident shortly after adoption, he amazes us all and he can jump up on a kitchen counter and supervises all dishwashing duties. We never thought he'd walk again, let alone save his hind legs. He was the only cat in the pool during physical therapy, even the dogs were afraid of him! Frosty is the darling of our lives, and we are blessed the Animal Center is responsible for bringing him into our hearts. Thank you, Monica and Kim. With our sincerest thanks. —Judy and Adam, Southbury, 12/07

Coconut

Hi! This is Sandy and Rick who adopted Coconut September 3, 2006. She is a cutie and has adapted very well to us, although we are still getting use to her kitten "ness". she is 9 months old today. she is very playful and curious "a good thing" and loves to carry around her toys like a puppy!!! We love her, thank you! Sandy & Rick, 01/08

Animal Center: Coconut came from a local family whose three female cats all had kittens at the same time. The family brought Coconut and her two cousins to us when the kittens were four months old, and asked us to find good homes for them because they could not.

Tommy Knocker

Happy New Year! I thought you might enjoy seeing an updated picture of Tommy Knocker as we are in his birthday month.  He’s been a wonderful addition to our family and even sleeps under the covers with me sometimes. Thanks for all you do! Valerie P. 01/08

Animal Center: This special kitty was found wandering around looking for food and warmth in a residential Newtown neighborhood at 11pm. Lost cat posters were hung around town for months. No one called.

Fibby & Jelly

Fibby and Jelly are incredibly joyful kittens who leap and bound about the house at top speed. They are great explorers and have penetrated just about every nook and cranny of their new home.  We have to be careful when we open the dishwasher and the fridge as they like to jump in to see what's going on.  When they simmer down they love to snuggle with us and each other. They are super cuddly and we love them more each day.  I think they have been photographed more than Paris Hilton.  Enjoy the pictures!  Cornelia D. 1/08

Animal Center: These kitties were found very sick and hungry at just four weeks of age in the Candlewood Lake feral cat colony we're helping to manage.

Lelah

Hi Kim and Monica, I can’t believe that this summer it will be 2 years since we adopted Lelah (known as Fortuna at adoption). Lelah is a little shy but a sweetheart.  She loves her older brother Theo a lot. Lelah will be 2 on April 24th. Here are a few pictures of her for the album. Thanks so much for finding cats good homes! Regards, Ally M., 1/08

Harry Potter & Hermine

Merry Christmas! The kittens have adapted wonderfully to our home.  Our oldest cat Sam still takes some issue with them but because they have each other, they leave Sam to his own space. They have grown and are huge.  Erica and Nicole love the cats and often want to pick them up but they are getting so big that is becoming a challenge especially for Nicole our 8 year old who has taken quite a liking to Harry, and he to her. Hope all is well with the shelter . . . enjoy the holidays. Mike, Mary, Erica and Nicole M., 12/07

Animal Center: These kitties were among a litter of four brought to us by a Bethel family who wanted us to find them good homes after they could not. The family had helped a stray cat who then had kittens shortly after they took her in.

Johnny & June

Johnny and June (formerly Roscoe & Cheyla) came to live with me back in January.  I remember the day that I picked them up so well.  I met Jeanine, the volunteer who was fostering them, at her house.  The cats proceeded to run throughout the house making it hard to round them up.  Johnny actually ran into the kitchen and found a hiding spot she never knew was there.  Since then, however, they have adapted well to life with us, a family of five with one other cat. They immediately took over.  Walking on the counters, knocking over the garbage, taking over my bed, as if to say, HELLO, I’m HERE!  Being a Johnny Cash fan, I changed their names to Johnny and June.  They’ve become part of the family in so many ways.  I am so glad I found The Animal Center, and it was all due to a picture of another cat, hanging in the deli where I get my coffee.  Thanks for introducing me to them, and thanks for all that you do for these animals.  Looking forward to the Fur Ball! — Jesse, 6/08

Animal Center: Johnny and June were rescued by our volunteer, Jeanine, in December. They were very sick with upper respiratory infections, flea infested and starving. They most likely would not have lived through the weekend had Jeanine not helped them.

Lilly & TIger

Hello to all at The Animal Center. Here is a picture of Lilly and Tiger (formerly Henrietta and Charles). You may say they look so innocent. Yeah right. I call them double trouble. These two are inseparable. Their past times are dumping whole roles of toilet paper, digging in the plants, and playing in the bathtub. When these two aren't "wreaking havoc," they are resting on the sofa with me. Lilly is my cuddler. She has to be lying on momma. Tiger, on the other hand, prefers to sleep at my feet. He likes to cuddle at his convenience. Thank you so much for my babies. They make me very happy and always keep me on my toes. Thanx again.
— Rahshanda, 6/08

Animal Center: These two kitties were rescued by our volunteer, Gudrun, who rescued them from a local dump/recycling center. Who could ever have considered these babies garbage?

Tess & Angel

I just wanted to let you know how wonderful Angel and Tess are doing.  I can't begin to tell you how much they truly love each other.  They sleep together, play together and eat together.  Angel gives Tess a bath every morning, faithfully.  It's amazing the joy Tess has brought to our home.  We thought after getting Angel that things just couldn't get better than that.  Then look what happened.  She is the most sweet, loving, adorable kitten I have ever seen. Dave and I just want to thank you once again, and send you a picture of our 'children'. May God bless you and all the work The Animal Center is doing. — Sheri T., 5/08

Animal Center: Tess came into our program when she was only 3.5 weeks old. She was one of nine transferred to us from a feral cat colony in CT. All kittens from this site were orange, orange and white or gorgeous buff tabbies!

Milo & Peanut

We adopted Milo and Peanut from the Animal Center in December 2007. When we adopted them, Peanut was very shy and wouldn't try anything until he saw his brother, Milo do it first.  Now, Peanut does a lot of the talking and is as loving as can be.  They love to meet anyone who comes to visit and their favorite toys are the little meepers (furry mice) as well as the laser pointer. They hide their meepers all over the house, and we still haven’t found all of them!  Both of the boys love to keep you company by being in the same room as you move throughout the house and both of them will come and sit on your lap at the same time.  Both have healthy appetites, which is starting to show J  They are the bestest of friends and do everything together.  They bring joy to our lives every day! Thanks to The Animal Center for all you do! Krissy K. and Sean W. 4/2008

Animal Center: These boys were born to an abandoned mom cat (Bella) who lived on Church Hill Rd. in Newtown. They were just five weeks old when we rescued them and they were very scared. Unfortunately, they also had ringworm, which meant they had to remain in our program for two long months for treatment before they could be adopted out. Thankfully, all the kittens responded well to the medication and they all went to their new homes healthy and ringworm-free for the holidays. back to top

Buster

Here is Buster. I adopted him 2 years ago -- his photo was in the local paper and he was at the Newtown Pound. When I picked him up, Gerri, the Animal Control Officer, suggested that I make a donation to The Animal Center because they had covered his veterinary care and expenses, which I have ever since. Gerri told me he'd been found in the Newtown dump. The moment I opened the newspaper and saw Buster's face, I knew I had to have him. He arrived 2 years ago and strolled out of his carrier and immediately befriended his sister, June Bug. Buster's favorite spot is my new bay window and he and his sister enjoy watching the birds and squirrels scampering around. He loves company and enjoys being the center of attention. But most of all, he loves hugs and being the "king of his castle." He is a treasure. Lynn G. from Monroe, 4/08

Fiona

Hello friends at The Animal Center. I just wanted to give you an update on Fiona.  We lover her!  She is such a sweetheart and a pleasant addition to our family.  She has really settled in nicely and is over all of her shyness.  She has even showed both of our dogs whose boss. Thanks again, Heelan Family 2/08

Animal Center: Fiona is a wild child turned cuddler after a week or so in our program. She is a Southbury rescue, brought in by one of our volunteers managing a large colony by the lake.

Sadie

Here is a picture to add to the gallery of our cat Sadie who we adopted from The Animal Center almost 2 years ago. She is a real sweetheart and loves to play and sleep with our kids. She is doing great, likes to keep us company and gets along well with our other three cats. The Animal Center is doing a fabulous job taking care of all the little cats/kittens. Thanks, Nicole E. 2/08

Animal Center: When Sadie and her littermates were brought into our program, they were covered with fleas and had an upper respiratory infection. After getting proper medical care and loads of TLC and food, Sadie and her siblings made a rapid recovery and were adopted out a few short weeks after. Their sibling, Seamus, is also on this site.

Valentine & Precious

Just an quick update on Frita and Gretel (now Valentine and Precious). I can't believe it's a year already. The kitties have settled right in with my geriatric cat. Valentine is loving and technically savy computer cat. Precious is less shy and loves to cuddle.Thank you so much. Donna Z., 2/08

Seamus

Hi Monica & Kim. Seamus (formerly known as Valentino) has been as spunky as ever and has developed into the most willful, but hilarious cat we've ever had. I just wanted to send you some more recent pictures of our cats. The middle picture is of Vinnie and Seamus when Seamus was a kitten. Hope all is well! Can't wait to stop by and see some of the new babies this summer. O'Keefe Family, 2/08

Animal Center: When Seamus and his littermates were brought into our program, they were covered with fleas and had an upper respiratory infection. After getting proper medical care and loads of TLC and food, Seamus and his littermates made a rapid recovery. Seamus was adopted by his foster family. Chrissy, Princess & Cheyenne

Cheyenne, Chrissy & Princess are doing great! Thanks again for allowing us to take all three kittens together.  We couldn't bear to think of them being apart from each other. This is a copy of our Christmas Card picture. Regards, Anne, Glenn and Kelly K., 2/2008

Animal Center: Princess made the front page of the Danbury News Times on August 23, 2007. She was found alone and crying in the bushes at our Candlewood Lake colony by Linda S., an amazing woman who volunteers her time to help trap and vaccinate the many cats in the Candlewood Lake neighborhood. Chrissy, too, is a Candlewood Lake Rescue. Cheyenne was transferred into our program from another rescue organization that asked for help.

Oreo & Mystic

Well, let's see......Oreo is 2 years old now and Mystic is 3. From the moment I brought Oreo home and introduced him to Mystic, the two of them have been inseparable. Mystic took to heart his role as the "older brother" and in spite of frequent paw batting and a lot of furious games of tag, the two of them are just about joined at the hip. They eat together, play together, fight together, sleep together and would probably go to the potty together except that the two of them cannot fit into one potty !! Mystic pretends that he is the alpha cat but I secretly think that "the baby" (Oreo) is the real top cat.
He gets away with murder and behaves very freshly most of the time.... And yes, he is still eating 15 shrimp every day.............not too spoiled.........:)
. —Sue K., 2/08

Animal Center: Oreo was rescued in Brookfield. He, his littermates and his mom were left behind when his family moved out of their condo. When we rescued Oreo, he had a slight head tilt. Thankfully, he's outgrown it!
